WEST HANOVER TOWNSHIP PARK AND RECREATION BOARD

I.               CALL TO ORDER:

The regular meeting of the West Hanover Township Park and Recreation Board was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by Chairman Bob Leonard.

IV         PUBLIC COMMENTS

Carol Buskirk, EAC, proposed a maintenance plan for the Rain Garden.: The EAC will water, weed and add mulch to the garden during the summer months.  Patti Estheimer, EAC, is supposed to bring final plan back to Park & Rec. board, concerning the rain garden sign. EAC is setting up event at the rain garden on July 21.

Carol asked where the Park and Recreation Board were with the Fairville grant and that the EAC would like to have input on the drainage of the parking lot near the rain garden.

 

Dr. Reeve-Bank shot basketball presentation, Dr. Reeve gave a very informative presentation on bank shot basketball, after his presentation the Park and Recreation Board discussed this project and is recommending to the Board of Supervisors to approve converting half of the basketball court at Lenker Park into a bank shot court. A motion was made by Mr. Geppert, second by Mr. Rogers to make this recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Ben Dietrich from HRG, checked into Roller blade Hockey Court, portable rink at a cost of $30,000. A permanent rink $100,00 - $130,000 with fiberglass boards on both courts.  Note court should be re-surfaced.

 

V.          PRESENTATIONS/REPORTS

A.    Baseball- None

B.    Ped Path-  Mike Geppert furnished a diagram of Skyline Ped Path.  A step needs to be added to the path at Skyline and some posts need to be removed & re-installed, and three (3) signs for pedestrian crossing need to be installed. A motion was made by Mr. Rogers, second by Jean Sites to continue with the above work. The motion passed unanimously.

 

C.   Fall Fest- The committee met on April 16, at 6:00pm. The Fall Fest is well on its way,

everything has been selected, sponsorships are coming in, the design of the program is underway, keep in mind we need a lot of volunteers so start recruiting.

 

 

 

VII.       APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Mr.Geppert, seconded by Ms. Sites, to approve the minutes of March 21, 2007. The motion passed unanimously.  

 

VIII      TREASURES REPORT-

The Filo and Park Development funds were reviewed by the Park and Recreation Board.

 

IX.        TOWNSHIP STAFF REPORT

Ms. Fesig furnished the Park and Recreation Board with updates on the following Projects:

Maintenance

- Dieter cleaned up all the bags of leaves over at Houck Memorial Field from the

Baseball clean up day. 

- The fence posts are rusted off at the parking lot at Houch Memorial Park.

- Dieter dug out the railroad ties and wood carpet where the tower was removed at Skyline Park.  - Someone tried breaking into the Midget concession stand at Houck Memorial Park

- Teener concession stand roof is leaking and needs to be repaired.

 

Skyline Grant Project

T. R. Stoner was awarded the Skyline Grant project, SKYLINE PARK WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC EFFECTIVE APRIL 23. The Hexagon pavilion and wetland educational marquee is being delivered at Township building the week of April 30th.

 

X           PLANS FOR REVIEW

A.          Oak Grove Manor -cemetery site off Oak Grove Rd, proposing single family detached homes/dwelling units (105). It was recommended by the Park & Recreation board that a memo be sent to the Planning Commission for clarification. The Board did not see any request for land dedication vs. fee-in-lieu. The Board does not know what they are requesting “Please specific”.

 

XI.        OLD BUSINESS

A.          Project status report

B.          Log cabin- Tom Stoner got awarded demo, will start shortly, should be down by May 31.

C.          Bankshot basketball (see above)

XIII      OTHER BUSINESS/CORRESPONDENCE

A.          HRG was informed to go ahead with the bid packets for ADA accessible path way at Houck Memorial.

                      B.       New Bus Trip (King Tut)

The monthly meeting of the Park and Recreation Board was adjourned at 9:21 p.m. A motion was made by Mr.Rogers, seconded by Mr. Leonard to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously.
