BUSINESS

Use of Swatara Twp. Sewer Capacity.  The following individuals were present to participate in the discussion:  Dale Shope, Gannett Fleming, Bill Weaver, LPTA, and Jeff Wendle, LPTA & CET.  The discussion centered on the capacity the Township owns in the Swatara Treatment plant and the apparent lack of capacity in the joint use interceptor feeding the plant.  Mr. Wendle identified on a map the current plans for upgrading the pipe and pumping station and the development of the wet weather treatment plant.  Until the permit is approved he cannot accurately pinpoint the timetable however he feels the engineering phase will be completed in the next 3 to 6 months.  If the Township participated fully in the expansion the cost would be roughly $1 to $1.2 million.  There was much discussion on a variety of alternatives available to the Township and also the responses received from Swatara Township to the Townships’ request to start using their capacity in the plant.  The final consensus was that Mr. Shope should prepare a proposal with all the alternatives the Township is interested in and present it to Lower Paxton to determine the costs of each alternative.

Road Crew Position – Authorize Advertisement.  Mr. Harman reported to the Board on the need for a new additional full-time position on the Public Works crew.  Mr. Harman also recommends the CDL license be required for employment.  Mrs. Zimmerman moved, seconded by Mr. Ziltz, to authorize the Township Manager to advertise for one full-time position for a Public Works employee.  Motion passed unanimously.  Mr. Jones inquired about the hours of the compost center.  It is currently open on Saturday mornings and Mr. Harmon is working on opening it one day during the week.  Because of abuse of the deposit of materials the center must be manned when opened.  When they are done paving one person will be freed up to man the center one day during the week.
