Building
Code Board of Appeals In
2002, the Township established the West Hanover Township Building Code
Board of Appeals (Board of Appeals) to serve as a judicial board
responsible for hearing appeals of the Building Code Official's
determination on matters concerning building construction, structures and the general health,
safety and welfare of the community under Chapter 88 of the
Township Code of Ordinance, and the Pennsylvania
Uniform Construction Code. In 2007, the Board revised
and amended the Chapter 8 of the Township Code of Ordinance to
repeal the formation an independent Board. Instead, the
BOS opted into the
multi-municipal Board of Appeals administered by the Capital
Region Council of Governments.
Examples of specific duties of the Board
of Appeals are as follows:
The Building
Code Board of Appeals supported by the Capital Region Council
of Governments members is comprised of appointed officials who
are qualified by training and experience to pass on matters
pertaining to building construction. Training and experience
may consist of licensure as an architect or engineer,
experience in the construction industry, and training or
experience as an inspector or plan review.
Meeting Times and Minutes
Appeals hearings held by the
Capital Region Council of Governments are scheduled on an needed basis,
following public notice. Fees and procedural information
for an appeal is available from the Township Building Code
Official at the Township Municipal Building.
