right of children to play, to sing, and to dance;
the right of youth to sport for sports’ sake;
the right of men and women to use leisure in
the pursuit of happiness in their own way,
are basic to our American heritage." Harry

The West Hanover Township Park and Recreation Board
was formed by in 1991 by Ordinance 1991-6. The purpose of the
P&R Board is to advise the Board of Supervisors and
Township Manager on ways to administer, maintain, develop and operate parks and recreation
facilities in the Township;
and to develop a
program of services designed to meet the various leisure time
interests of all Township citizens.
In 2000, the Board of Supervisors adopted the
Township's first Comprehensive Park, Recreation and Open Space Plan
for the Township. Based on direct input from the community and technical
studies of current and future needs for Township park and recreational
facilities, the park plan
outlines the Township's unique goals and objectives for park and recreation
facilities and programs. The park and recreation plan serves as the multi-year
guide to the Park and Recreation Board and Township staff for park programs,
facility improvements and other park related objectives.
As a member of the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, the West Hanover
Park and Recreation Board continues learn more about leisure programs
and park services. The Park and Recreation Board remains dedicated to bringing innovative programs,
leisure activities, park
maintenance strategies to the community and to further enhance the
Township's excellent quality of life.
