Compost Center Guidelines (5-1-06)

The West Hanover Township Compost Center is located at the Township Public Works Facility at 402 North Fairville Avenue.  Residential yard waste such as leaf waste, brush, garden waste, small limbs and tree trimmings may be bundled and/or loaded and dropped of at the Compost Center during the week or at specific times on Saturdays.    Effective May 1, 2006, CUT LAWN GRASS will NOT be accepted in the composting waste stream.  Grass may be individually bagged and included with the regular residential waste collected at curbside.

HOURS OF OPERATION:  Residents may self attend to their compost material during the week, but it is recommended to call in advance to assure that the Compost Center is open.  Saturdays during the spring and summer an attendant is available at the center from 8:00AM to 12:00PM to assist residents with their materials.  All yard waste collected at the Compost Center is sent to the Lower Paxton Township composting facility under a cooperative agreement with Lower Paxton Township.  West Hanover Township will adhere to any changes in policies regarding materials permitted for composting and mulching.  Chipped and recycled organic material is "mulched" at Lower Paxton Township and then returned to the Compost Center where it is made available to Township residents free of charge.

COMPOST MATERIAL GUIDELINES:  West Hanover will accept the following only:

  • Leaf Waste*....leaves, weeds, tree trimmings, bundled tree trimmings, and all garden plant waste.  *Leaf waste must be free of any lawn grass..
