Compost Center
Guidelines (5-1-06)
The West Hanover Township Compost Center is located at the
Township Public Works Facility at 402 North
Fairville Avenue. Residential yard waste such as
leaf waste, brush, garden waste, small limbs and tree trimmings may be bundled and/or loaded and dropped
of at the Compost Center during the week or at
specific times on Saturdays. Effective
May 1, 2006, CUT LAWN GRASS will NOT be accepted in the
composting waste stream. Grass may be individually
bagged and included with the regular residential waste
collected at curbside.
HOURS OF OPERATION: Residents may self
attend to their compost material during the week, but
it is recommended to call in advance to assure that
the Compost Center is open. Saturdays during
the spring and summer an attendant is available at the
center from 8:00AM to 12:00PM to assist residents with
their materials. All yard waste collected at the
Compost Center is sent to the Lower Paxton Township
composting facility under a cooperative agreement with
Lower Paxton Township. West Hanover Township will adhere
to any changes in policies regarding materials permitted for composting
and mulching. Chipped and recycled organic material is
"mulched" at Lower Paxton Township and then
returned to the Compost Center where it is made available to
Township residents free of charge.
COMPOST MATERIAL GUIDELINES: West Hanover will accept the
following only:
- Leaf Waste*....leaves, weeds, tree trimmings, bundled tree
trimmings, and all garden plant waste. *Leaf waste
must be free of any lawn grass..
- Tree Trimmings of less than six (6) inches in
diameter.
ITEMS NOT PERMITTED:
- Grass
- Tree Stumps
- Trees
- Plastic Bags of any kind
- Construction debris
- White Goods or non-compost material
