Van Program - "The Gopher"
The West Hanover Township Senior Citizen's Van
Program was
formed in 1983 through a cooperative effort and agreement between the West Hanover
Lions Club, the Dauphin County Commissioners (Dept of Aging) and the
West Hanover of Township Board of Supervisors. Over the years,
each partner has had a special roll to play in providing free
transportation for senior citizens to and from local businesses and
doctor's offices near West Hanover Township.
Today, residents who are 60 years and older are
eligible for the program. Each resident participant must (except for
emergencies) make reservations with a Dispatcher to arrange for pickup at least one
(1) day in advance of the trip. The volunteer van driver will pick up the
resident and deliver the individual to their location and return them after their
visit. There is no cost to the service cost of the
service.
The van program volunteers do receive donations in
support of the program from time to time, which are deposited into the
program's fund for future use. THANKS for all the donations!
