Water is essential for life and plays a vital role
in the proper functioning of the Earth's ecosystems. The pollution of
water has a serious impact on all living creatures, and can negatively
affect the use of water for drinking, household needs, recreation,
fishing, transportation and commerce.
As part of the Commonwealth of PA Municipal Storm
Water System permitting program, the PA Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) enforces federal
clean water and safe drinking water laws, provides support for municipal
wastewater treatment plants, and takes part in pollution prevention
efforts aimed at protecting watersheds and sources of drinking
water. West Hanover Township and its citizens has a role too in developing programs
and helping Township residents become better stewards of the Township
waters, which flow downstream.
Please use and enjoy this site often and pass
along the information and techniques to your friends and neighbors in
order to improve the quality of storm water on your property, in the
stream next to your property and in the community in general.
