Tax Collector
The local tax collector in West Hanover Township is the
municipal officer designated to collect municipal and school
real estate taxes levied under the PA Second Class Township
Code and County Code. Municipal
tax collectors collect school taxes levied under the
authority of the Public School Code, including school real
estate taxes. There is no authority for a school
district to collect these taxes through its own employees;
this function has been assigned to the municipal tax
collectors.
All tax collectors
in Pennsylvania are elected for 4 year
terms beginning the first Monday in January following the
municipal election. The tax collector is elected during
the municipal election in a four year interval following the
odd-numbered years (e.g. 2001, 2005, 2009, etc.). The
Tax collectors only serves until the first Monday in January 4
years after their respective election. If for any reason a
successor is not elected or fails to qualify,
the position remains vacant until the governing body appoints an
individual to fill the vacancy.
